Fraser Lake Hike

Please consider joining us for an all church hike on Saturday August 25, 2018.
This would not be a difficult hike (in terms of terrain) but it is a fairly long hike (16 km round trip) with moderate hills.
The most difficult part would be walking across a rock field, and possibly the last km or so up to the summit. But even that isn't very steep. Total elevation gain (right to the top) is only 600 meters.
Based on a previous hike, we can expect the time on the trail to be up to 8 hours (there and back). We would also need time to drive to Fraser and a couple more to come home. All together, we should expect a 12 to 13 hour day (leaving the church, to returning to church).
The hike begins by following an old road for about 3 km, then along a lake for another 2 km. After that we walk through a beautiful meadow in a scenic valley another 2 km before climbing a hill that would overlook the Chilkoot Trail (on the other side).
Since we are starting just inside the Canadian customs area (on the road to Skagway), and since we will not be leaving Canada, you will not need a passport.
If this is something that you’d be interested in, please indicate your interest by signing up for it in the foyer (bulletin board).
What you will need:
Meet at the church at 8:40 am. We will be driving out of the parking lot at 8:59 am, arriving in Fraser at 10:29 and starting our hike at 10:53 am.

What you will need:
- Light rain jacket (not a "rubber" jacket which doesn't let air in/out - but a "breathable" one).
- Spare shirt; a warm hat; probably a warm top of some sort.
- Wear new socks - and bring one extra pair. (Old socks have lost their "cushion" and might cause blisters). Bring an extra pair in case one set gets wet along the way.
- Water shoes/sandals and a small towel. (There may be a stream or two to cross. Nothing major... but rather than get your shoes wet, might be better to put on sandals, then dry your feet and put your shoes back on).
- Bag lunch and snack food. We will be leaving the church by 9 am, and don't expect to be back until 9 pm. Bring food.
- Water bottle. Can't live without it. There should be water along the way. We've always just drank it out of the stream, but if you are concerned about any illness from untreated water, you might want to bring some form of water purifier or filter.
- Small pack - just to carry the above.
- Hiking pole (optional). Some people love these things.
