Alaska District Family Camp: July 4 to 7, 2024
The Church of the Nazarene Alaska District invites their neighbours in Whitehorse to join them for their annual Famliy Camp at Camp Maranatha (Big Lake, Alaska).
Located about an hour from Anchorage, the district runs and operates a beautiful and well equiped campground, complete with meeting spaces, many cabins, a comfortable lodge, large dining room, a gymnasium and a playground for children.
Family Camp has many different aspects to it; including times to worship, times for fun and games plenty of free time, activities for children, amazing food, and, (among many other things) their cardboard boat race.
DATES: Please note: that the camp will be starting at NOON on July 4 and will end at noon on July 7.
COST: The cost of the camp is as follows (all of these prices includes meals):
BONUS: to help alleviate the cost of the camp, anyone who brings their registration fee to the church (at least two weeks prior to the camp) can pay the amount in CAD (no exchange charged) and the church will pay the same amount (in USD) on your behalf. So basically, you save the exchange rate. To take advantage of this, do not pay the camp directly ahead of time.
TRANSPORTATION: The church bus is possible, but most people might prefer to take their own vehicle (the space and the seats in the bus are comfortable, but the rough road makes it a difficult and slower drive than in a car). There is no "charge" to use the bus, however, we would ask for $100 per person to contribute towards the fuel. We would need at least 8 people signed up (at least two weeks prior to the event) to make taking the bus feasable. If we take the bus, we would plan to leave on July 3 at 6:00 pm (and drive through the night). We anticipate arriving back in Whitehorse by early morning July 8.
If you are travelling in your own vehicle, you can stay in the area (at a hotel, or public campground) for as long as you like, maybe take the rest of the week touring parts of Alaska.
Please see this link for Pastor Norman's explanation of why Family Camp should become a part of your family's annual plans.
