Dominican Republic - Work & Witness Trip 2017A little weary, but filled with joy, the Whitehorse Work & Witness team returned home after a very successful 8 days in the Dominican Republic. The team worked on an extension to the building that would eventually allow the church to receive many more children in their child development centre. Currently, the church offers week-day programming to about 100 children in the community. The goal of the pastor and the program director is to have enough space to accommodate up to 300 children in their program that targets mainly children who are at risk in their homes or community.

Most of the work involved untying or tying rebar, hauling sand and gravel (sometimes up a long set of stairs), assisting with the concrete block walls, loading and unloading wood, salvaging nails, putting in electric boxes in the walls, building forms for concrete pillars, helping assemble the forms that would be used to pour a concrete floor on the second level, filling and handing up pails of concrete, and whatever other task we were called to do.
In addition to the construction work, team members were also involved in children’s ministry to a large group of children, with songs and games.
The team worked hard, laughed hard, ate well, and was an encouragement to the church where we served, representing Christ and His kingdom.
On Sunday your team visited a church in a small community outside the city, and in the evening we worshiped at the church within the city where we had been working all week long. Both services were filled with music, testimony and joy.
The Yukon team was assisted by Paul, our friend from Kelowna who had also joined us during our trip to Haiti, and our new friend Betsy, a young woman who came from Indianapolis full of energy and enthusiasm. Both were a huge and very welcome blessing to our eleven volunteers from the Yukon.
We thank God that there were no serious injuries, nor were there any customs and immigration issues.
The team is exceedingly grateful to the whole church, for your prayers, support and encouragement. It was truly a blessing.
