Suppressing the Truth

11/30/2021

Romans 1:18-32
"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator - who is forever praised. Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural one. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that so that they do what ought not to be done. They became filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them
." (NIV)

The apostle Paul is speaking to both sin in general, but more specifically to sexual immorality and homosexuality. There is something most disturbing about sexual sins that God seems to always put more emphasis on, he seems to dislike sexual sins more than other sins, why?

1 Corinthians 6:18
"Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body." (NIV)

In the word of God, he tells us that our body is a temple (1 Cor 6:19) our bodies are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. All other sins, except sexual, are done outside of the body, which is not to say that God approves because he does not! What this says is that those other sins do not desecrate, or profane, or vandalize, his temple, our bodies. Sexual sin does do those things, and as a result God, by his divine, holy and eternal nature, must leave, he has to reject us.

The result is nothing short of catastrophic and tragic. We are then left to our own depravity and wickedness, without a guide, without a discerning heart or mind, and we rush head long into a darkness that is truly horror.

This is very self-evident in our society today in many ways and forms, it is very tragic, and we cannot seem to figure out why there is so much pain and suffering. Could it not be that we have rejected God? Could it not be that we have exchange the truth of God and replaced that truth which leads to life, with the lies of the world, which lead to death? This is a very complex and complicated time that we live in, all lines of morals and ethics have been blurred and skewed so that, that which is natural and right, true and just become wrong, and that which is wicked, perverse, immoral and evil become right. What is this if not satisfying the evil desires of the flesh, rationalizing, and justifying those desires?

God tells us that if we confess and repent of our sins, those done outside of the body and those we commit against our bodies, he is faithful and will forgive us of our sins. This is not a matter to take lightly, it is very serious.

Our lives, our time here on earth, is very short. We know not the hour or the day we will be called heaven ward, on that day we will give an account of our lives, we will be made accountable and be held responsible for how we lived, not according to the laws of men, but according to God's law which is above ours. Please take some time now to pray and to reflect on your life and how you have lived, in what ways are we living out God's plan? In what ways are we living a life that is contrary to his will for us? If we are living in any way that is contrary to the Word, contrary to the Holy Spirit, we need to confess and repent today, right now, not in an hour, not tomorrow, but right now. I encourage you to do this daily, that you may have life and live it to the full.

Father God, we are, in many ways, living lives that do not honor you. Lord I pray that we take time today, and everyday, to reflect on this reality and confess the ways in which we are living apart from you and your Spirit, that we would be brought into repentance that we may have life. Holy Spirit, help us to be humble so that we can do this, show us how to rely on you, to trust you more and more each day, that we would follow you not the world. In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I pray, Amen!

New Years Eve Message

12/29/2019

Good day to you all. We are very quickly coming up to the New Year, and there will be many who will celebrate. There is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating, but it is how the celebrating is done, and what is being treasured in heart and mind that seems to lead to problems. The main issue is the alcohol and drugs, and that it is that it is actually these that are being celebrated not the New Year.

So to it then. What do we hold as worth of serving in our hearts and minds? Is it drugs? Alcohol? Sex?

Matthew 6:19-24 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for your selves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where you treasure is, there your heart will be also.

The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness!

No one can serve two masters, Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

So what does this say? I seems to say much, and it does. First off, we have to look into ourselves and consider, or contemplate, to whom or what we have devoted ourselves to, what do we enjoy doing in our free time? For some it is sitting down to watch a hockey game, that would be me. For some it is hitting the local pub after work for a beer or two. For others it is getting home and then lighting up a marijuana cigarette, and still others look for some form of sexual gratification.

So what is it that we treasure? The second part to that scripture is the fact that all that we treasure, can also become addiction. This is where those thieves and vermin come into play.

There is much to lose when we devote ourselves to temporal things, such as drugs, alcohol, and lustful and sensual desires. There are many things that are destroyed when we give ourselves to serve our worldly desires.

  1. We loose ourselves, we become senseless and wreak less in our choices and how we think and feel.
  2. We stand to loose our lives.
  3. We loose our families, our spouses and our children.
  4. We loose our jobs.
  5. We loose our dignity.
  6. We loose hope, purpose, and meaning, we mearely exist to serve the next desire to get high.

I won't go any further, I think we can get the picture here.

The third part, which for me is the most important part;

"No one can serve two masters, Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

My friends, it is not possible for us to serve two masters. It is not possible to satisfy the desires of the flesh and love your family. It is not possible to love your wife while investing in pornography, or investing in extra marital affairs. It is not possible to be healthy physically or mentally, when you are slowly destroying yourself with drugs and alcohol. We cannot be devoted to the one and love the other.

I have heard so many times, of people investing in these things say that they love their wife and kids, or their husband and kids, but the sad and tragic reality is my friends, is that they love their addiction, their service to see the desires of the flesh fulfilled.

As we go out this year to celebrate the New Year, let us ponder who we serve. Let us consider what it is that we treasure the most in our lives before we decide to get behind the wheel of the car intoxicated. Let us discern between what the world says we should treasure, and what God says we must treasure.

I humbly, and respectfully ask that you make these considerations, that we think about what matters most in life, who is most important, and am I willing to risk it all to see my will be done, knowing that there are loved ones at home, and that the potential to hurt others is very real.

The Lord did everything out of love, he served in love, he spoke in love; so I appeal to each of you to keep this one thing in mind as we go out to celebrate, 1 Corinthians 16:14 "Let all that you do be done in love." Please think of all those you love, and all of those who love you, serve them in love, think clearly, act responsibly, be accountable to them always.

Father God, please watch over all of us. Keep us safe, Lord. Help us to be accountable and responsible, help us to discern and consider what it is that we treasure. Father you love us all so much, help us to love the way you do, help us to see that there is more to life than the temporal celebrations of this world, that you have an eternal celebration planned for us, help us to get to the place where we desire that celebration over the celebrations of the world. In Jesus name,

Amen!
God bless you all, and may he keep you safe!

Follow Your Heart?

Ecclesiastes 9:2-3
"The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. Even as he walks along the road, the fool lacks sense and shows everyone how stupid he is."

There is so much information today online, but which information is the truth, which information is from the wise? I guess one would have to understand how wisdom is defined.

In a worldly sense, wisdom is defined simply by experience, and by that experience one may have sound judgement pertaining one thing or another. In a Godly sense, wisdom is found in fearing the Lord, this wisdom comes from God by way of his Holy Spirit which is revealed through his Word, the Bible. This wisdom gives one a divine discernment, and keeps one from worldly folly.

We hear of such things as human rights, reconciliation, freedom of speech, and same sex marriage. In worldly terms these things are defined purely in subjective individual ways, which are intended specifically for one group of like minded people or another. God, on the other hand speaks of these things in terms of humanity, as in all people regardless of skin color, race, or creed. God does not speak to white people specifically, nor does he only speak to First Nations, Russians, Germans, Africans, Swedish, or Americans, God speaks by his Spirit to all.

The blood of Christ, poured out for all men, has provided the opportunity for reconciliation, it has provided the opportunity for us to cast off the chains of sexual immorality and addictions, it says that we can have dignity again, that our lives have a purpose and a meaning, and that is found only in Christ.

I am not telling anyone here, that they should get on their knees and confess and repent, though I would not oppose that, What I am saying is that we have brains, and we have a heart, and we have a soul, and in these three we have a conscience. If you are doing something in your life right now that gives you the feeling that something is wrong, or that just leaves you constantly chasing after something more, I ask you to just stop, and think for a moment, do not act impulsively, just stop and think........................

If you are about to become drunk, stop and think, if you are about to invest in a relationship that is morally questionable, stop and think. Listen to your conscience, the Holy Spirit, then act, this is wise, this is discerning what is right and what is wrong in the eyes of the Lord, this is wise and leads to a life worth living.

Blessings to you all
