June 2006

Night 33- June 2
The hike started on a long gravel road. Once we got to the main trail, we took some photos, said a prayer, and continued the hike. As we hiked, we were able to see the beauty of God's creation close up. The view was spledid! We saw lakes, rivers, vallies, mountain, and much more. It reminded us that we need to take care of this world, not destroy it. When we got to the top, we had a devotional and shared our thoughts about God and His creation. How could this world have come in to being on its own? Without the Creator there would be no creation. After our devotional we had cookies, took group photos, and tossed around a football - on the mountain!

Night 34- June 9

Whitehorse Nazarene Youth Group Olympic Games - 2006
Opening Ceremony
At youth group we had an Olympics night! First, we broke up into two teams and had to come up with a team name. My team was “Jesus Freaks”, and the other team was the “Klondikers”.
Game 1: Push the Car
One person had to sit in the car and steer it as his team mates pushed it around the parking lot. It looked easy at first, but once we started going it proved to be a lot tougher than expected! The Klondikers beat the Jesus Freaks by about half a minute.
Game 2: Egg toss
As we lined up with our partners, we were given an egg to toss to each other. Each person had to take a step back once they and their partner caught the egg. Many eggs hit the ground, and many eggs broke when caught, yet one team got the egg more than half way across the parking lot! The Klondikers claimed victory once more.
Game 3: Spitz
Each team was given a cup some sunflower seeds. The object of the game was for each team member to stand over the cup and spit in 3 sunflower seeds. There was one catch - when someone got a seed in a cup, that person had to take a giant step away from the cup! Once they got their second seed in the cup, they had to take another step back! Once every team member had gotten all 3 seeds in the cup, they were declared winners. The Jesus Freaks won this game! Our mouths were quite salty afterwards, so we had some water.
Game 4: Water Balloon toss
After the two teams got on opposite sides of the volleyball net in the playground, a towel was given to each of them. Each player was to hold a corner of the towel, and fling a water balloon to the other side. If the other team caught the water balloon with their towel, they were given a point. Sometimes people were splashed after attempting to catch the water balloon! The winners of this event were both teams. It was so fun that we lost track of score!
Game 5: Mummy Defense
our job was to wrap up one player from each team with toilet paper to look like an ancient mummy! The object of the game was for the teams to attack each others mummies with water balloon while defending their own mummy from being soaked at the same time. Everybody got wet during this game, especially those wrapped up!
Closing Ceremony
The team that won the Olympics fought till the end even though it meant being soaked by the other team. Way to go Klondikers! The winners of the night were: The Klondikers! They were all good sports and deserved to win, they were even honored with a medal ceremony! Megan presented “gold” medals, Tammy played the music, and Sarkis videotaped (video to be released soon!). That was fun; I hope we can do it again sometime!

Night 35- June 16
We celebrated two special occasions at youth group: the end of the school year, and two birthdays in June. The youth were asked to dress up as Super Heros for the night; we had a Zoro, Super Mom, Nurse, and News Reporter! A third of us played games, such as uno and a few other games. Another third of us watched a movie called Cheaper by the Dozen 2. The other third of us filled up water balloons for water games. We tried palying water balloon toss, seeing how far we could pass them to our partners without the balloons breaking. After a few rounds we had a water fight! We got soaked! After everybody had gathered together half way through the night, we celebrated two people's birthdays. We sang happy birthday to them and dug into the cake! Afterwards Megan led us in a devotional.

Night 36- June 30
It was very nice out when we went swimming at Long Lake. Right away Megan cooked some hamburgers for us; she flipped the burgers with a stick! That's how you flip burgers Yukon style! After we had some burgers and juice, we played "throw the ball as far inTO the lake as possible and see who gets to it first". When Megan threw the ball into the lake, everybody made a mad dash towards it. Little did we know there was a drop off. At one point we were running in knee deep water, and before we knew it we were completly underwater! Good job to the guy who retreived the ball first; he won some candy (which he did share)! Two people took on the challenge of swimming across the lake, and they both made it! A few others also took on the challange, but only made it a third of the way before turning back. We tried building a raft to take us to the other side. We had plenty of logs, but no rope. Next time we'll remember it! After we were all dried off, we had a devotional.
