                                                                          Purchasing Hardware

Sooner or later you will want to buy some hardware.  It might be a memory card or it might be a “thumb” drive (or “USB” drive) or maybe an external hard drive.  It might be more RAM or a new monitor.  Best place to start (actually to check frequently) is Red Flag Deals.  Red Flag Deals is not limited to computer parts but also includes just about anything that can be sold.  You’ll find coupons for fuel discounts, car rental deals, travel deals, clothing deals, and of course, all sorts of computer deals.  If you go to Red Flag Deal’s main page you’ll see the latest deals.  Or you can go to their Hot Deals section for a listing of their hot deals.  I’ve found many nice items through Red Flag Deals.  In fact, I do most of my Christmas shopping through it.  I find something of exceptional value and I’ll order it and put it away for Christmas.

Of all the things I’ve seen at Red Flag Deals, one of my favorite places to buy from is Dell.  The reason is that they have free shipping on just about everything, so when something goes on sale, you can get it without shipping cost.

Another place I often check is the daily “Circuit Breaker” deal from the Source.  There is a new deal each day (6 pm Eastern time) and often the deal is nothing I want, but once in a while, they have something good.  A good place to look for stocking stuffers or Christmas Exchange gifts.  And since they ship free to our local store, I just order it online and a few days later I get a call from our local store saying my order has arrived.

If you are looking for cheap “gadgets” you can go to dealextreme.com or monoprice.com.  Dealextreme is out of China and the quality isn’t the best, but the prices are very low and believe it or not, shipping is free.  I’ve bought a couple of SATA cables from dealextreme for about $1.50 each when they were selling locally for $20.  I’ve also bought those quarter sized batteries (for use in computers or remote car starter or whatever).  They usually sell for about $4.50 each in Wal-mart.  I bought a package of 20 of them from dealextreme for that price.  I also bought accessories for my iPod for $3 instead of $30 locally.

If you don’t want to order out of China, you can go to monoprice.com.  They are in the USA.  The products themselves might not be a whole lot better (many may very well be from China in the first place) but at least you are dealing with an american company.  Nice thing about Monoprice is that the prices are low and they don’t have ridiculous shipping charges.  The shipping is actually reasonable.  I’ve had one product that I purchased from monoprice go bad.  I did an on-line request for a replacement and they sent it right away without asking for the defective one back.  I imagine that if it wasn’t such a low cost item they would have wanted me to send them the broken one, but in this case they didn’t.

One other thing, I have made many purchases from Dell.  On a couple of occasions the product I ordered didn’t turn out to be what I wanted and they sent me a shipping paid return slip so I can return the product to them for a full refund.  That was really good.  I’ve also had the same experience with Amazon.ca.  I’d highly recommend both.

Bottom Line: Looking for cheap gadgets? Go to Dealextreme or Monoprice.  Looking for name brands?  Go to Dell or Amazon.  But always check with Redflagdeals!
