The Church of the Nazarene Daycare is a non-profit daycare operated by The Whitehorse Church of the Nazarene, and is thereby under the direction of the Associate Pastor, Rev. Clayton Keats. Our simple goal is to provide the highest “outside-of-the-home” quality childcare as possible and at reasonable prices.

At the Church of the Nazarene Daycare, we base our programming around good, sound, moral and primarily Christian teachings and values. Because the Nazarene Daycare is a ministry of the Church of the Nazarene, Biblical/Christian teaching may be a regular part of the daycare programming under the direction of the Children’s Pastor. Bible storybooks, videos and songs are part of our daycare program and may be used by the staff at their discretion. A Children’s Program is held once a week on Thursday afternoons for our After School and Preschool children.

We will endeavor to enhance and facilitate the development of the whole child – spiritual, physical, intellectual, cognitive, emotional, and social. We will provide a program rich in activities and play experiences in order to reach this end. Our daily routine consists of a variety of both active and quiet play experiences and allows time for indoor and outdoor play, regular toileting and washroom routines, two healthy snacks a day and a hot meal program served at lunch that abides by the standards as governed by Child Care Services Unit and the Canada Food Guide, regular times of “Free Play” experiences, and a variety of both quiet and active time activities to promote development of the whole child.

Because we have a mix of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age throughout the day, a regular day consists of many different activities, which the staff is responsible for programming for their individual groups. Staff members are allotted time in their regular week’s scheduling to plan and prepare a variety of educational experiences for their individual group. All programming completed by the staff members is handed in to the director and age-appropriate activities are chosen for the various age groups in the Daycare based on the interests of the children. As part of their regular scheduling, infants, toddlers and some younger preschool children have a regular scheduled naptime to ensure that a rest period is given, as this is essential for maintenance of the body for all of us.

Children are our priority. Our program will allow time for children to complete various group as well as individual activities throughout the course of the day. By doing so, children will learn various social skills such as co-operation and sharing in addition to meeting their individual needs in all areas of development. There have already been numerous repairs completed to the existing locations of the programs that have made it easier to supervise a group at any given time. Physical repairs included the addition of several half doors, brightening up the Preschool and Infant and Toddler Rooms with a paint job and improving the overall look of our Side Entrance for the parents. Future building repairs include the addition of door chimes that link into our security system and also the addition of some new murals to our walls in various places. We are also aspiring to upgrade our existing playground and to once again restock our shelves with new craft supplies and basic equipment to improve the overall quality of program that is provided for the children.
